My Surprise!
Hello this is Amy. It's been awhile since you have heard from KayOss Designs or me, and I would like to share with you what is happening.
During a random doctor's visit in July they found a fast growing tumor on my right ovary. I underwent surgery on August 8th to remove the tumor. When I woke up I received the news it was CLEAR CELL CARCINOMA (CCC). I am putting this in capital letters
because it was a shocking surprise to me, my doctor, my friends and family. My world has been turned upside down. I thought, "How is this possible?" I believed I was a healthy person, and even changed my career to do what I love by creating KayOss Designs . I decided to pursue a career that I love while allowing me to inspire others. Little did I know there is still so much more to learn.
Since learning about my diagnosis, I have met with many amazing doctors, have had to make very difficult choices, have conducted endless research, all to gather as much information from the outside and within myself to choose the best possible way forward.
No matter how amazing my friends and family are, (and they are The Best and I love them all), there is still an indescribable loneliness that sets in like no other being on this road and making life decisions for yourself.
After much research on cancer and CCC in particular, I learned my type of cancer is very aggressive, quick growing, and rare, ha, just like me ...
Based on this information, I decided to undergo a second surgery on August 29th at Barnes Jewish Hospital under the loving care of Dr. Dave Mutch,to remove my left ovary, omentum, uterus, cervix and some surrounding lymph nodes for staging. This was a very difficult decision for me to make, even though it felt like the right thing to do with my body at that time.
While chemotherapy is recommended for many types of cancer, the latest medical research shows no conclusive evidence that undergoing chemotherapy with help me with this specific type and grade of cancer.
I don't want just five more years, I want a lifetime with no fear of it returning. I recently found my work passion and have had the pleasure of meeting all of you through this work, and I now I feel I have been put on this new path for a reason. Now more than ever I need to listen to my heart, and create the best possible plan! This is how I can find my "calm within the chaos".
Ask For What You Need
The greatest gift I have received throughout this process is to ask for what you need. This does not come easy to me, but I have learned it has become a necessity for survival. It is very difficult for us to do that as humans, it is foreseen in our society as being weak, but in that vulnerability there is more strength than ever. Many friends have offered to send a letter on my behalf, but this is my process. It is a humbling experience that I have accepted to experience on my own.
My Solution
After almost 2 months of intensive research, phone calls, collaborative emails, endless meetings and international Skype conversations, I decided to submit my application for treatment at the Gerson Institute in Mexico. Last week I received a phone call informing me I got accepted for the alternative cancer treatment program.
According to the Gerson Institute; "Degenerative diseases render the body increasingly unable to excrete waste materials adequately, commonly resulting in liver and kidney failure. The Gerson Therapy uses intensive detoxification to eliminate wastes, regenerate the liver, reactivate the immune system and restore the body's essential defenses"”enzyme, mineral and hormone systems. With generous, high-quality nutrition, increased oxygen availability, detoxification, and improved metabolism, the cells"”and the body"”can regenerate, become healthy and prevent future illness."
If you'd like to learn more, there's a good amount of information on the Gerson Institute website, or you can watch The Gerson Miracle
free on YouTube or through Netflix.
Even though the initial treatment in Mexico is 2 weeks, the program is recommended to be continued for at least 2 more years at home. Unfortunately, the insurance companies do not cover this type of alternative cancer treatment.
I want to raise the necessary funds allowing me to go to the clinic to continue my healing process.
How Much?
The initial 2-week minimum required stay at the Gerson Clinic is $11,000. A relative or friend to assist with the program must accompany each patient. My mother has agreed to join me in Mexico. This was not an easy decision for her. My parents have been the most loving and supporting beyond what I can imagine, and I do not want to burden them more financially.
People have offered to raise the funds for me, but I feel this is humbling for me to personally ask for what I need. KayOss Designs has been on hold through this process, but it is my sincere hope to be and work with you in the near future.
I'm asking for your help.
I thank you in advance for anything you can do to contribute. Whether is it donating or sharing this story with a friend, I thank you from my open heart. I also welcome and am very grateful for your prayers and loving thoughts while I am embracing this.
I love all of you,
Amy
