Kathryn Mabin Medical and Fire help
Donation protected
Thank all of you who have so generously helped Kathryn recover from both her medical and Fire emergencies.
It is now almost the one-year anniversary of the devastating Valley Fire. I can report that Kathryn is doing well, and has had time to heal, reflect, and in many small ways to re-build her life, thanks largely to the funding all her friends, old and new, provided through this campaign. She was hoping to be able to continue to live in Lake County around friends and neighbors she's known for decades, but once her FEMA-subsidized housing in LC ran out this month, she chose to move to an affordable (also subsidized) living circumstance in Sebastopol CA. This puts her living near her daughter Jenny and granddaughter Isabella - so as a grandmother, that part is wonderful! Still, she hopes eventually to be able to return to Lake County whenever her previous neighborhood has been able to rebuild.
It's slow going up here with the rebuilding, what with newly-established County codes that require fire-resistant construction materials, as well as the higher cost of construction labor, with so much competition for builders in the area. Driving around, it looks like barely 2-3% of the homes burned have been re-built, or replaced with modular housing. So still looking very forlorn up here, with wide swaths of trees burned or cut down.
Kathryn continues to stay positive, grateful and open-hearted in her disposition despite this devastating past year. I am continuing this fundraiser to help see her through the next year at least, until she is finally settled back up in Lake County. She herself has always offered her gracious help to others in their time of need, and the Golden Rule has proven itself to her since the Fire! in the generosity of friends. A donation of any amount will help her continue to re-adjust to her new circumstances and keep going.
I appreciate your taking the time to read and feel her situation. Thank you!
