Journey to Baby Roberts

For those that don’t know my sister Brittani and brother in law Cody have been trying to have a baby for 3 years now.  My sister was diagnosed in May 2020 with diminished ovarian reserve. Which just means she doesn’t have as many eggs left in her body as she should. This also means that their only way of POSSIBLY having a baby of their own is through in vitro fertilization or IVF.  Between May 2020 and October 2020, they went through 2 egg retrievals and 1 transfer.  Egg Retrieval requires Brittani to take 3-4 subcutaneous injections a day for 8-12 days, then retrieval is outpatient surgery under general anesthesia. The ovaries are monitored via ultrasound during this time to see that the follicles where eggs should be are growing. The only way to know how many eggs there are is after the retrieval surgery. Their first retrieval produced no eggs at all.  This was never an anticipated outcome at all, and actually fairly rare.  They dove right back in to the subcutaneous injections for a 2nd retrieval with a 50% chance of retrieving eggs.  They ended up with 2 eggs, only one of which fertilized and created an embryo. They transferred their one and only embryo back on October 1st and it ended up in a biochemical pregnancy (fancy way of saying an early miscarriage). They’ve now hit a roadblock, they have no more embryos and have to start all over again. Insurance covers NOTHING, everything has been out of pocket. They took out a medical loan to cover the first cycle, and are now paying back that loan (the loan actually covered 1.5 cycles, and they had to pay the rest out of pocket ). Their chances are good for trying again, but they don’t have the ability to get another loan to pay for it. They will be paying all out of pocket again.  There is a lot that goes into it... medications both pills and injections, countless ultrasounds and bloodwork, surgeries, diagnostic testing.  You name it.. all being paid out of pocket.

I wanted to start this to help my sister become a mommy, the one thing she’s dreamed off since she was a little girl (And I want to be the crazy cool aunt). I’m hoping this will help take some of the financial burden and stress off of them.  They will be saving every penny possible, but if you have a dime to spare or a heart to share this I really appreciate it, and I know they do as well.

All funds raised will be going towards their next cycle, and anything extra will help go towards paying off the loan for the previous cycle.
