Help Me Beat Lung Cancer
Donation protected
My name is Val, I am 30 years old, and I have lung cancer. I was diagnosed in 2019 when I was 26. This is my story.
In May 2019 I went to the hospital for rib pain/spasms and shortness of breath. While there, they performed a CT scan which found a 7cm mass in my right lung which, at first, they thought was a bronchogenic cyst. When the CT surgeon went in to remove the cyst he saw multiple masses on the lung and chest wall. He decided not to take anything out before further testing was performed. The quality and number of these cysts is a very abnormal finding under any situation, let alone in a person of my age.
He did a biopsy and found that the cysts were actually a subset of lung cancer called invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma. I'm the youngest person he has ever diagnosed with this disease and the prognosis is extremely difficult to judge at this time.
At this point, I have severe rib and chest pain, joint pain, extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, along with wheezing and moderate shortness of breath. My cancer has also grown since my initial hospital stay. I now have a 6cm tumor on my chest wall. It is so large that it can be seen poking out through my ribs. Also, some of the tumors in my lungs have grown as well. Needless to say, I'm also dealing with an extreme amount of anxiety over all of this as this is not a simple cancer to treat and there is no guarantee of positive outcomes.
Currently, I am in a clinical trial. I have been on several treatments before this, including two different chemotherapy drugs, one immunotherapy drug, and one targeted therapy. Unfortunately, they did not work, so that's the reason I'm doing a clinical trial. I have to say, this clinical trial has been the toughest treatment I have ever been through, and some days I can barely get out of bed.
Due to my symptoms and the multiple doctors' appointments/testing, I have not been able to start my new job as I had planned on May 25th of this year. I graduated in May 2019 from a medical laboratory technology program, and I should be working in my field by now.
I'm usually a very busy person, and I have worked or gone to school for the majority of my life. and this whole ordeal has greatly interrupted my life plans. I graduated with a 3.60 gpa with honors and was excited to start my new career.
I am struggling financially due to the fact I can't work at this time. Any donations would be appreciated and will be used to help bridge me through this very difficult time. I will keep you updated on the progress. Thank you so much for your financial support, thoughts, and prayers.
