Movement Liberation Scholarship Fund
Donation protected
It is rare for people of color to find financially accessible movement healing spaces. Most conscious dance floors are predominantly white. The Movement Liberation Scholarship Fund directly supports BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) to participate in workshops and retreats facilitated by Valerie Chafograck and other educators of color.
Please consider becoming a racial and healing justice ally by donating to our Movement Liberation scholarship fund for People of Color.
$88 Sponsors a participant for a daylong workshop
$550 - $700 Sponsors a participant for the summer retreat (camping - indoor lodging)
OUR CAUSE
During this time of immense social and environmental upheaval, it is vital that embodiment education be accessible to ALL communities, especially those most impacted by systemic oppression.
For two decades Valerie Chafograck, founder of Dance Sanctuary , has offered conscious dance education and created a vibrant cross-cultural community of movers in the Bay Area.
The path forward for Dance Sanctuary™ includes a new focus on Movement Liberation by creating embodied and somatic healing workshops and retreats for people of color. Through mindfulness, somatic and Soul Motion™ dance practices, social and racial justice education, and connection with nature, we offer safe spaces in which BIPOC can regenerate their very roots, and cultivate wellbeing and resiliency within a supportive community.
This project has the power to bring about radical healing and guide the way into a new global and racial paradigm, not just on the dance floor but in every aspect of its operations and partnerships, including fundraising.
OUR VISION
We believe in a world that celebrates racial equity and diversity, in which all people of color are free in their bodies, empowered in their self-expression, and connected to the richness of their ancestry and the brilliant potential of future generations.
HOW THE MONEY WILL BE SPENT
The scholarship fund will make all Dance Sanctuary™ workshops and retreats for BIPOC participants free of cost for the year 2020.
We are calling on you and your extended communities to put Love into Action by contributing today. In order to successfully execute the goal in 2020, Movement Liberation is raising $55,000 by December 31, 2020.
$88-$100 donation supports a participant for a daylong workshop.
$500-$700 supports a participant for a retreat.
JOIN THE MOVEMENT
To understand the relevance of creating financially accessible healing spaces for BIPOC, we must examine the political historical context of our country. The United States was founded by white supremacy, genocide, and slave labor. Though contributing a personal donation does not substitute the need for our government to pay reparations at a federal level for the centuries of intentional economic deprivation of black and brown communities, your participation in our efforts is a step that will directly benefit those who are most impacted by this reality.
For deeper insight about some of the important history of reparations organizing in our country and elsewhere, learn more by reading The Case For Reparations , by Ta-Nehisi Coates.
This time of political reckoning in the United States is asking those who benefit from the country’s legacy of violence and slave labor to re-distribute resources to where they were taken from. Each of us has a part to play in righting the wrongs of ancestors by moving forward with dignity in a commitment to the praxis of right relationship.
One of the more effective ways white folks, and all folks, can participate in efforts for racial equity in our communities is to redistribute money and time towards Black & Indigenous women and femme - led justice initiatives.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity.
You taking a stand makes a difference in the collective liberation of all beings.
With heart and appreciation,
Valerie Chafograck and collaborators.
