My Mother and Father have been together for over 30 years and have always tried to help others along the way. They have set people up with businesses ( teaching how to fish ) and given when they could (given fish). Two years ago Mom and Dad decided to sell their restaurant of almost 5 years to a young couple that worked for them (their dream) however they refused their help after the fact and subsequently failed owing my parents over $40,000. They have forgiven them of their debt simply because they don't have it however now they are in dire straights. My dad has over the last year been overwhelmed with Auto-Immune disease that has taken him down a road of pain, depression, fatigue, and sickness. It is hard for him to ask for help because he's always been able to find a way but now finds himself lacking in so many ways. Now, faced with more health related expenses and complicating side effects of the medical treatment to help combat this unusual illness, and mounting credit card bills my dad is at a loss of what to do. He'll be 60 this March. In his 59 years of life he has been through and unconsumable amount of ordeals involving his health, he's cheated death more than 3 times; from having an emergency pacemaker surgery, then years later landing 2 feet from an on coming train after being thrown from his motorcycle, to having a stroke at the dinner table on Christmas eve several years back; but he survived! and continues to defy the odds. He needs a life-line. In college, he was stabbed and lost over half of his blood supply and I survived(has a pretty cool scar from it too.) When my aunt, his younger sister died of cancer in 2001 leaving behind 2 children age 3 and 6 my parents adopted them changing all our lives and we survived. Now he finds myself present but not fully accounted for. His pride comes before a fall and he is in need. Along with his pride he doesn't like to ask so I'm asking for him. I've already had to witness my dad almost dying in front of me and I'm just not ready for that to happen yet, he's too young, with so much more life to live. So I'm asking you, please give what you can. My father is one of the most deserving people on this planet. If you are unable to donate to his treatment fund please reach out to him and let him know how much he means to you, words are worth so much. My most sincere thanks in advance.
He is stage 4. The cancer started at the base of the tongue (back where it connects) and has spread to the Left and Right Lymph nodes. We need to catch it before it spreads further. This type of cancer is metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. The location makes treatment more difficult because the neck houses 26 organs. To give it a label; Oropharyngeal Cancer. Surgery is not an option due to fact that he could lose his ability to use his tongue which means no speech with possibility of not being able to swallow therefore a lifetime feeding tube.
The question that most have is "doesn't insurance pay for that?" The answer is yes and no. It will cover some but there is a lot of 'out of pocket' expenses with cancer including the after care treatment. That and the fact that he and mom are now out of work, they will need help paying bills. They have sold a lot of things and have now listed their home for sale, hoping to be able to pay off 2 mortgages and other bills. My Dad always tries to stay positive in any situation, saying he doesn't know where he'll be able to throw up.
With your help maybe we can make this thing easier for him, and save my parents the burden of worrying about cost and to allow them to get focus on only the healing. Every little bit helps. Please help save my father, I along with the rest of our family just aren't ready to lose him yet.
Much LOVE,
