Injured Officer Needs Our Help

On February 7, 2016, Rock Hill Officer Steve Sperber was stuck by a car driven by Deandre Blevins, while investigating another vehicle that had been reported for suspicious activity. Blevins, who has a lengthy criminal history, then fled the scene, hitting several cars, before finally crashing into a utility pole. Sperber was launched into the windshield of the
vehicle, over the roof of the car, and landed over 40ft away from the point of impact. He suffered elbow and skull fractures, and a traumatic brain injury. His injuries were catastrophic, and he was forced to retire. Steve was a highly decorated officer, as well as a former marine with tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. As a 3rd generation police officer, he was devastated. He survived the incident, but he’s now facing another battle, the insurance companies. His only source of income known as Statutory Replacement Pay, had been coming in every 2 weeks, until 3 months ago, when without explanation, it just stopped. Repeated calls to the insurance company have gone unanswered. Steve is the single father of two sons, aged 18 & 21, who still live at home. If not for the financial help of friends and family, he doesn’t know where he’d be. He has bills stacking up, and is struggling to provide for his sons, or even gas money. Meanwhile he’s still under workers comp, and is restricted to those physicians, and is unable to perform any type of work at this time. Since he’s been unable to afford COBRA, he has no other medical insurance at his time. He suffers
from chronic neck and back pain, and
cognitive impairments. He’s finally been cleared for spinal surgery, after his last elbow operation. This veteran and faithful public servant, has simply been left with nothing. Anything you can give is highly appreciated, and desperately needed.
