Michelle Castro's 5th Hip Surgery
Donation protected
The reason I have started this GoFundMe is to help out my dear friend Michelle. To give you a little back story, Michelle had both of her hips replaces back in 2004. The doctor told her she was born with her hips dislocated which caused them to make their own ball joint which caused Michelle a lot of pain. Surgery was a partial success although when the doctor placed the hip, he broke her femur bone which caused her to have a shorter leg on her right side and have a limp for the rest of her life.
She has worked in the deli at Safeway for over 15 years and the last year has been very painful on her hips, but she thought it was due to working a lot and being on her feet for countless hours a day. She finally got to the point where she couldn't handle the pain anymore, she was in tears everytime she stepped on her right leg. She went to the emergency room on April 8, 2015 where an X-Ray was taken and the doctor told he she had broken her right hip and he noticed a small crack in the left hip but wanted her to wait until it fully broke. Her hip replacement surgery was May 12, 2015, where she was out of work for a whole month before having her surgery with a broken hip on bed rest and 5 months recovery.
Before her surgery, the doctor asked her if she wanted what is called a Nerve blocker which is a substitute for an epidural so she doesn't feel the area that was worked on instead of numbing her whole lower half. She accepted it. The surgery went great, although when she woke up she was in so much pain she couldn't stand it. The doctor proscribed her the max amount of pain meds for her lower back which was were her nerve blocker was placed. The pain meds didn't help one bit. When I saw her in all that pain I felt so helpless, I just wanted to cry and I could only imagine that her husband felt that much worse. The first day after surgery she was supposed to get up and walk. There was no way she was moving anywhere from her bed. Finally by the 3rd day, she was actually able to take about 3 steps but was in agonizing pain. She was only supposed to be in the hospital for 3 days after surgery but ended up there for 7 days before she was released home. She had Countless doctors appointments, physical therapy sessions, acupuncture appointments, and chiropratic treatments over the last 6 months but she still hasnt found a cure to her back pain. She was only supposed to be off for 3 months post surgery but it has now turned into 5 months.
She went in a week ago to get released back to work since she is feeling better and her short term disability had expired. Instead of getting good news, she got the worse news anyone in her situation could get. Instead of her doctor releasing her back to work she was told she needs to get her other hip replaced because the artificial joint has shifted away from her bone which is causing her pain. During her first surgery, her husband took all his vacation and sick time to take care of her the first two months post surgery. They are stressed with the burden of having to go through another surgery with no income from Michelle and to have her husband there to help get around the house and make sure she's ok.
We hope this next surgery will go smoother, but I am asking for any donation that will help with her bills and all the medical bills that are piling up. Anything will help to make this process a little less stressful. Thank you for your time and consideration.
