Support Kelly's Battle Against Cancer

Dear friends, family and neighbors,

It has been a year since Kelly was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer, and prognosis is hopeful, but he's not out of the woods yet. He's been through radiation, chemo, and a life-threatening blood infection from a failed medi-port that interrupted chemo for a month, with a week-long hospital stay in Anchorage in February.

After a year of medical leave, Kelly's employer could no longer keep him on the books for insurance and disability. As of recently, they are only getting income from Alder's part time work. Kelly is hoping that he may possibly qualify for unemployment and/or Care Act insurance to support his family. Alder is actively seeking more hours in multiple places, and when Kelly's health allows he will return to work too, maybe back at his old job.

Meanwhile Kelly's 8-hour surgery on Aug 12th resulted in a permanent stoma bag, and a lot of healing ahead. There was a small second mass found under the large one that was removed, which apparently turned out negative! There is another spot on his lung that needs biopsy. There will be more radiation ahead as preventive measure, either way.

Both of their vehicles' engines died on medical trips, but kind neighbors helped them with a used truck, and they are now getting a used engine put in their Subaru.

Their daughter Avery is starting Kindergarten. Alder has a background role in the upcoming musical this fall, and there are so many things for them to be hopeful for.

They've been hesitant toward family's suggestions to start a second GoFundMe, but now agree they must ask for financial support again. Know that any support would be humbly appreciated.

The support they've already received has been profound through prayers, financial and mealtrain donations. The number of people willing to help is what has helped them make this journey less of a struggle and focus on what's important.
