About a month and a half ago Angie started having pain in her left hip, which got so severe that she ended up in the ER. She thought maybe she had just tweaked her hip somehow at work.
She's a Medical Assistant and works long hours working the floor with patients. She absolutely loves what she does, even though it is both physically and mentally demanding some days, especially since Covid hit. But she wouldn't want to do anything else, caring for people and knowing that she is able to make a difference in their lives for the better every day is her passion and is more than fulfilling.
After her ER visit, the doctors found a mass about the size of a large peach in her abdomen. After many tests and procedures, they confirmed that it was indeed cancer. Stage II squamous cell carcinoma. She was referred to Rochester, which she have been blessed with an amazing Oncology team. She had surgery last week, hopeful that they might be able to remove the tumor, but unfortunately that was not the case. The tumor is attached to her bladder. Angie's oncology team decided the best course of treatment is a 5 week treatment plan of radiation and chemo daily. It is a 2 1/2hr drive one way to Rochester from where she lives, but the doctors want her to stay in Rochester during the course of her treatments as she's going to be very weak and sick after each treatment. Unfortunately that requires transportation and lodging, all of which requires quite a bit of money. Angie hasn't been able to work through all of this so it's left her needing to depend on family and friends for support.
No one plans for things like this in life. She has 3 beautiful children, ages 12, 11 and 3 to think about also. The bills are piling up, and there is no telling when she will be cleared to go back to work and doing what she loves after the treatments are done.
Angie has truly been an amazing friend to so many people. Helping others before herself, she has been an inspiration to myself and to so many countless others. I'm asking everyone to help Angie with at least one less thing to stress over
