Louie's Heart Surgery

Louie (FKA Loki) came to us from Kentucky in mid 2020 and has been cozying up with his foster mom for some time now while we work on helping his heart get better. Sadly, he was born with a heart murmur that is not getting better. Many puppies grow out of their murmurs and go on to live long happy lives. Louie did not. His murmur is getting progressively worse and at only 1 year old he now needs heart surgery. He has been on medication that isn't helping. The right side of his heart is showing severe enlargement and is working too hard to keep his little body going. Usually when we say that a dog has a huge heart, we mean it in a good way. But this time, parts of Louie's heart are a little TOO big and we need to help him out. 


Louie is scheduled for balloon valvuloplasty surgery which will create a pathway through the thickened walls of his poor little heart. His heart is working overtime right now to push blood through his body and keep him moving. Without this surgery he is at risk for developing an intolerance to exercise, fainting and congestive heart failure.
