Hope Of Escape Production
Hello! We are producing Hope Of Escape, a non-fiction feature film (part documentary, part reenactment) that follows the story of Diana Williams, her daughter Cornelia, and her daughter’s sweetheart, William, as they plan their own emancipation from slavery in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Filmmaker Amy Gerber, who is a direct descendent of Diana, Cornelia and William, brings her forebears to life from their own memories and historical research through cinematic flashbacks that show the harrowing journey they made. Hope of Escape recasts the history of enslaved persons pursuing freedom and highlights the trials and triumphs of one family determined to make a better life and a better country. More information on the film is available here on our website .
The funds donated to our GoFundMe will be used to fund production, and other necessary costs of funding a feature film. We are currently in production, and any funds provided would be essential in helping this film come to life. This film is both a family and vital historical story. Your support helps celebrate the history of courageous enslaved people and the personal legacy of our filmmaker. We are deeply grateful for donation you are willing to give us, and we look forward to sharing this story with you all! Please follow this link (and scroll down) to read a letter from our filmmaker.
