Yesterday as I was sitting in urgent care filled with so much sickness - I overheard a young mother who was waiting for her baby to be seen. The baby was crying and obviously very sick . The mom was on the phone calling a shelter and with her we’re two other young kids asking if she could stay there with the kids for the night. I didn’t ask her story then but knew I had to help. I asked her if there was something I could do and if a hotel would be helpful. Come to find out the baby had pneumonia. I sat and waited for them in the urgent care until they were ready to go. Took them to the pharmacy and bought the medicine and pedialyte and put the kids and the mom in my car. They had taken a bus in the frigid cold. I spent the day driving to her shelter and loading up her minimal belongings and taking her to a hotel. The baby had pneumonia and staying in a shelter with no heat is not an option. This mom has been homeless for a month and her children often go hungry: they have minimal clothes, food and medicine. She is waiting help from the government for a place to live but until then they stay in the shelter at night with no heat and are forced to leave every morning at 7 am in this cold. She has a 4 year old , 2 year old and 1 year old and due with a baby in February. She has never been homeless before- was raising babies as a family until two months ago when things took a turn. She had been at her job for 6 years and now is unable to work due to childcare and not being able to afford a place to live. She and these children need our help. I have since gotten them some necessities but they need so much more. They need food, and a bus pass and medicine and clothing for the kids. They are cold and hungry and they are babies. I have been in contact with her case Manager and will continue going forward ! I have the best group of girlfriends rallying to get things together for us to take to the shelter tomorrow but they need so much it’s overwhelming. If you have it in your heart to donate anything this season I literally beg of you. I didn’t expect to meet this family and drive three babies who were not my own to a place just to place them somewhere where there was heat yesterday but God led me there and now I could use some help! Thank you for your kindness
