Hi my name is Parker Coffey I am a student athlete at Columbia Basin College. I am a baseball player who recently got hit in the head with a 90 mile per hour pitch.
The pitch gave me a severe concussion leading to constant pounding headaches, nausea, short term memory loss and a stutter when I speak. I have been like this since October 22nd and haven’t shown significant signs of improvement.
I am looking to raise $4000 dollars by December 31st. The money will be used to buy new helmets that are made for protecting batters when hit in the head with a ball up to 100 miles per hour. I am looking to buy 25-30 new helmets for the team so something like this doesn’t happen to another one of my teammates who are my brothers and family or myself.
I do not want what happened to me to go on without taking a stand to educate and help others.
Fundraising still happens at every level of baseball and all teams purchase safe and up to date equipment. The best of the best is sometimes out of reach for colleges, select and little league teams. I want to help teams be prepared for the unexpected.
I want to start so the CBC team and I can be ready for the season. I want to other schools to learn from what I am going through.
This is something thats very important and really hits home for me because this concussion has made me think about my future, not only with the game I love but with my life. Statistics say that I could have a very high probability of receiving Parkinson’s disease and am susceptible to many other brain crippling diseases that my cut my life short or not allow me to live my life to the extent I would like. This is a hard thing for me to come out about but its just the facts. There is a lot of information - both sobering and hope filled and I am definitely lucky with a strong prognosis for full health. However, with each concussion the chances increase drastically for Parkinson's and other diseases. That is something I don’t want my teammates/brothers/family to go through.
Here is more about the helmets you will be purchasing -

It has to start somewhere.
Every dollar counts no matter if its just $1 or if its $100, I just want to keep everyone around me as safe as possible and make people aware.
Thank you so much for everything and your generous donations.
