Help Purchase a WalkAide for Debbie

Donation protected
Hello, Thank you for taking the time to look at my request. My name is Debbie; I am a 49 year old single mother of three children.  Many of you know that I suffered a massive stroke almost three years ago. Like many stroke survivors, I was paralyzed on the left side of my body.  I received great care at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point, Indiana. Remarkably, at the end of my 54 day stay in the hospital, my left leg began to move and the physical therapist got me to stand up with assistance. This was a thrill for me and my family. I also received an outpour of support from friends, family and co-workers during my darkest days. My recovery has been slow, but I am mobile with the help of a cane.

After almost 3 years, my mobility is improving slightly after much physical therapy and a positive mind set. My days of walking barefoot safely or in flip flops have been out of the question....or so I thought...  until I was informed of the WalkAide.  You can find more information at www.walkaide.com.  This product is designed specifically for people needing help walking.  It attaches just below the knee with electrodes placed on your leg muscles.  The unit sends electrical stimulation to the muscles to help you walk more naturally.  I have already been successfully evaluated for the WalkAide and I have been temporarily using a device that COPE has loaned to me.  However, my insurance will not cover any of the costs and sadly because of this disability, finances are not available due to my limited income. The WalkAide greatly improved my walking.  I also have what's called "foot drop."  This is a side effect of my stroke and my left foot points down because my ankle still isn't working properly.  With this unit, my toes remain pointed up and I don’t drag my toes on the ground.  What I liked most about the WalkAide was the fact I had more freedom and independence.  I find it very hard to ask for help, but it's what I have to do now. I need your help to purchase a WalkAide!  Your money will allow me to purchase the WalkAide and a yearly supply of electrodes.  If you can find it in your heart to support me in my recovery, I would be so humble for your generous gift!!  I promise you, you will always be in my prayers each and every day and I will make sure to pay it forward in any way I can.  Even if you are unable to donate, pIease share my post and keep me in your prayers for my continued healing.
