I am raising funds for my dear friends, the Milivojevic’s, who, to anyone that knows this amazing family, have been struck down by heart breaking and devastating news that changed their lives overnight. It all began in May 2023, when Dean started feeling unwell. In the early hours of one fateful morning, he collapsed upon arriving at the hospital. The diagnosis was terrifying: swelling on the brain. He was immediately rushed to Monash Hospital for emergency surgery to relieve the pressure. The news that followed was heart-wrenching for his family and close friends—the doctors informed them that Dean was unlikely to make it through the night due to the severity of his condition.
The devastation and shock were unimaginable. Dean, a strong and healthy 17-year- old, was suddenly fighting for his life. Yet, against all odds, he did just that. He fought with every ounce of strength he had, surviving those critical initial weeks, though not without severe complications. Each day was a battle, but Dean, with his fearless spirit, kept fighting.
As Dean lay in the ICU, his family gathered around him, their hearts breaking. Dean spent his 18th birthday in a hospital bed, surrounded by machines and medical staff instead of friends and family. Instead of celebrating this milestone with joy and laughter, his loved ones prayed for a miracle, clinging to hope amid the relentless beeping of monitors. The sight of balloons and cards next to his bed was a strong reminder of what could have been.
Our Deano is embarking on the next chapter in his battle and recovery from Meningococcal Meningitis, and his journey has been nothing short of a testament to his strength and resilience.
Deano is known for his kind heart, impeccable manners, and infectious sense of humour. He is a beloved son, cherished brother, and a loyal friend. His love for his parents is boundless, and his adoration for his brothers is undeniable. Dean is the type of mate everyone wants by their side, well-loved by all who know him.
The months in the ICU and Monash were gruelling. Dean faced numerous complications but never gave up. His family lived through their worst nightmare, each day filled with uncertainty and fear. Yet, with unwavering support and encouragement from his loving family and dedicated medical team, Dean made small but significant steps toward recovery.
After his initial recovery period, Dean entered rehab in Caulfield, continuing to work tirelessly on his rehabilitation. Many months later marked another significant milestone as Dean left rehab, ready to face the next stage of his recovery journey. Although he remains non-verbal and unable to walk, we all believe that with the right support and treatments, Dean can make even more progress.
This journey has taken a heavy toll on his family, both emotionally and financially. Michelle, Dean's mum, has been unable to work while caring for him full-time. They are now seeking appropriate rental accommodation with accessibility features to make daily life more manageable. Financial support would provide the family with much-needed relief and comfort, helping to ease their days during this challenging time.
With heartfelt gratitude, we kindly ask for your generous support and donations. Let’s give Dean the best possible chance to regain his vibrant spirit and cheeky humour. Any assistance, including contacts for accessible rental homes near his family, would be deeply appreciated.
Together, we can help Deano and his family navigate this unimaginable journey and give them hope for a brighter future.
