Jack’s Top Surgery
Last week we received the long awaited news that Jack’s top surgery has been scheduled for October 27th. Although we are both excited, we will be in need of some support during this process.
As you may know, Jack began his transition in 2019, and by February of 2020, he was able to begin taking testosterone. Although this has brought many positive physical changes, Jack has dealt with dysphoria related to his chest for a long time. Getting what's commonly referred to as "top surgery" would alleviate that, and allow him to live a happier and more authentic life.
Unfortunately this necessary gender confirming surgery can be quite expensive, and insurance doesn't always cover the full amount. After coverage, $2000 will need to be paid out-of-pocket for the surgical costs, in addition to transportation and accommodation costs for pre/post op appointments.
Transmasculine top surgery includes a range of procedures that remove the patient's breast tissue and reshapes their chest. If this fund hits its goal, Jack will be receiving a single incision procedure from Dr. Armstrong at Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. It's a low-risk surgery with phenomenally high satisfaction rates.
After the procedure, there will be a 3-4 week recovery period. This fund would also serve to cover any follow-up visits, and post-op support that Jack may need.
