From Rwanda with Love

Hi friends and family. I am planning on returning to Rwanda for one week in October this year to continue the work of Good Behavior Ministries, the street children ministry I volunteered with in Rwanda for 5 months. Good Behavior Ministries was started by a man named Samuel to help homeless and vulnerable children in Kigali, Rwanda. When I first met Samuel he would play soccer with the children every Saturday morning.

After the game Samuel would talk to the kids about staying in school, not doing drugs and making good decisions in general. Samuel was a beaken of hope and a source of love in the lives of these precious children.

Samuel's love and dedication for the children was genuine and I knew right away that I wanted to get involved and help out in any way I could. Aftering writing letters home about the children and recieving initial funding, Samuel and I bought the children bibles and started hosting a Sunday morning bible study with breakfast for all 25 children.

With the amazing support of friends and family back home we were even able to raise enough money to buy every child health insurance for one year and put every child in school.

And that's not all. Samuel's wonderfully talented wife Donatille makes beautiful hand woven baskets and hand made jewelry.

When I returned to the states for a visit I brought back 60 baskets and hundreds of different types of jewelry. I sold over $3,000 worth of baskets and jewelry and every penny went to directly to Good Behavior Ministries. We were able to put 6 more children in school and ensure that the currently enrolled children could stay in school and have health insurance for another whole year.

Even though I am back living and working in the U.S. I remain committed to supporting this amazing organization. As I stated above, I am planning on returing to Rwanda in October to visit Samuel and the children. Donatille has been hard at working making more baskets, jewelry and even Christmas ornaments and presents for the holidays. With a Masters degree in International Administration and years of experience interning and working at non-profits I plan on turning Good Behavior Ministries into an official 501 c 3 non-profit. The goal is to find a sustainable way to sell the baskets and jewelry to continue funding schooling and health insurance for the children as well as the weekly breakfast at bible study.

I am still figuring out all the details but for now my immediate goal is to raise enough money for my roundtrip flight to Rwanda as well as food and board for that week. My goal is $2,000. Any money raised that exceeds the $2,000 or isn't spent during my trip will go towards the school fund for the children. I appreciate any amount that you are able to give and every dollar counts. This goal is not simply about allowing me to return to Rwanda. It's also not just about furthering education for vulnerable children. It's about giving hope to the hopeless and love to those who desperately need it. So please join me in this endeavor to return to Rwanda and further the mission of Good Behavior Ministries.
