Travis' story :
As most of you know and probably seen on Facebook that my brother just had his second limb amputated. And on his behalf I would like to share his story from that day that changed his life ...
It was an ordinary Saturday evening that we got the phone call, my brother was on his way back from Walmart in Macclenny , crossed Normandy Boulevard and hit a tree going 60 mph , my uncle Michael called my parents house, we were out by the pool watching the kids swim & the only thing he could say was "life flight is on the way and it doesn't look good, Travis doesn't look good." It felt like we were at Shands downtown within five min, it all happened so fast . Yet after getting there it felt like hours before the Dr's came out to tell us anything, whether or not he was alive or dead. When they finally came in to the waiting room , They told my mom and dad that he was in critical condition and that they didn't think he'd ever walk again(His spinal cord wasn't severed but stretched like a rubber band) , they continued to say they weren't sure if he was going to make it & that he had a long road to recovery if he did ... To see their faces at that moment, was just heartbreaking.
Weeks went by with him in a coma, and on life-support , we didn't give up faith that he was going to make it through this.. lots of prayers & tears were shed for Travis to pull through! Numerous surgeries & 20something days after the accident , Travis woke up and tried to tell me that the doctors were trying to kill him. Lol , we were just so happy to see him awake. After a few more days in ICU , the Doctors decided it was time to move on to his next step which was Brooks rehabilitation where he stayed a few more weeks to learn how to transfer, mobilize himself & be self
About a year after the accident Travis bumped his leg on my car door as I was trying to get him to a Doctor appointment, this is when the pressure sores began. It took months for this wound not to heel , but only to get worse, infection had set into the bone. It was then when we had to hear more bad news , the Doctors decided to amputate his leg due to the infection, which was very hard to take in as he had been through so much already, and this just made it that much more final (that he will never walk again).
That surgery changed Travis again, he had to relearn all over again how to mobilize himself & maneuver in different ways, because of the balancing . Six years have gone by since that surgery, and yet again he is facing it again...
As most of you all know my Brother Travis just had his other leg amputated, due to pressure sores again . He is now a double amputee. Please pray for him to a speedy recovery. After he leaves the hospital he will be going to stay @ Brooks Rehabilitation, to relearn all over again how to balance himself, maneuver around, transport his limbless lower body from his chair to the bed ....
With that being said because he will not have any legs to balance himself, he is now top heavy and will need a new wheel chair . His current wheel chair was held down in the front by his leg. Travis now needs a special double amputee wheel chair to get around in. ....
I will be setting up a Go Fund Me account for Travis , Any/All proceedings will be going towards Him getting a new wheel chair.
Please share my brothers story as this may help him raise enough for The new wheelchair he will be needing.
