HELP KENYANS PLANT TREES IN AFRICA for CLIMATE
Hi, my name is Clifford Akwana. I began my group WOPA Green in Nairobi, Kenya in order to teach children about environmental issues. Our afterschool program provided teaching, tutoring, classes in sustainable crafts, opportunities for children to see their work, workshops for the community and overall community organizing. We obtained an refurbished a building for our school and taught the students to garden.
However, with the pandemic, we were forced to move out of the city to the country. We cleared ground and grew crops. However, out here, we'd like to initiate a tree planting project modeled after your "Green New Deal." We have written the Kenyan government and requested funding.
However, it is a difficult time for the Kenyan government financially. Can you help them help us by providing seed money for our project? We will be able to establish forest cover that will remove CO2 from the air, help our ecosystems recover and provide jobs
to displaced families who sorely need the income.
Clifford Akwana and his wife, a community midwife, have initiated WOPA GREEN KENYA to fulfill the needs of rural youth. Most large environmental organizations are located in big cities, leaving rural youth without environmental programs and WOPA GREEN KENYA fills that gap. He was awarded the Artists for Planet Earth's "Earth Citizen Award" by Kenny Young in 2016 for his work.
