Help Matt Cox & Family

Donation protected
On 10/18/19 Matt Cox (41 years old) suffered a severe hemorrhagic stroke. He had two brain bleeds with massive hemorrhaging and was in a coma. He was placed on a ventilator. A drain was put into his brain to relieve the pressure.

After more than 3 weeks, Matt is no longer in a coma. His bleeds have stopped and the drain removed. He is no longer on a ventilator or has a trach tube. He has made it through multiple infections , surgeries & tests. He has suffered an immense amount of brain damage.  He recognizes family & friends, but he doesn't comprehend where he is or what has happened to him.  He responds to some commands and is getting therapy at the hospital.

When Matt was 32 years old he went into heart failure. His heart was only pumping at 13%. In 2010, he received an LVAD. In 2012, he had to replace that LVAD with a new one because the original one failed. Since 2010 Matt has been on blood thinners.

Matt, his family & doctors are in a tough position currently. He needs blood thinners for his heart, but cannot take blood thinners because of the stroke. Matt currently has 3 blood clots in his femoral artery. He does have a IVCF, but is high risk of an embolism. His doctors have spoken with Mayo Clinic to see if they would take him as a patient, but they won't and agree with the current care plan the doctors have in place.

So now what? Unfortunately we do not know. The future is uncertain. Outlook is not positive. The doctors have no time frame to give us. He currently isn't stable enough to be moved to a long term care facility. Two out of three facilities have already denied Matt as his condition is too complicated.  A team is working with Matt's family to discuss the difficult decisions that may be in the near future and to start planning financially for the worst case scenario.

Matt & Tami have 5 children together, ages 11-20. They just recently finished building their home in DeSoto, WI. Matt does not have life insurance & he had not pre-planned for a funeral. Matt & Tami do have a mortgage.

Any donations will go to Tami & family to be used for funeral, fuel & household expenses.

Matt's family wishes to thank all of you for your support, love & prayers during this difficult time. Please keep visiting Matt & reach out to the family, especially the kids. Everyone is struggling to cope with the unknown future.  We all hope for the best, but doctors are telling us to prepare for the worst.

Sincerely,

Tami Cox & family
