Wendy’s Surgery

Hi, my name is Wendy.

I found out on Friday that I am going to need surgery to remove my Thyroid. I have had several years of dealing with thyroid nodules, but the doctors that I was seeing were telling me that the nodules were not growing so they were ok. I started having some different symptoms like struggling to swallow or just a constant tightness in my neck or a sensation that t-shirts or other things I wore that touched my neck would give me a strangling sensation. I told my doctor at the time but was told it was probably just allergies. Didn’t address the issues I was having. This past Friday I went to a new doctor. She listened to my concerns and did a sonogram only to find out that my entire thyroid was enlarged and abnormal, along with measuring several nodules. The doctor let me know that the thyroid is pretty much consuming most of my neck, including my windpipe, trachea, blood vessels in my neck and more, which is what has been causing all of my symptoms. The surgery is not in emergency status, but the doctor said as soon as we get through getting Chloe moved into college, I should get something on the books within the next couple of weeks. The surgery of course has to be paid for before it can happen. We, unfortunately, do not have insurance, so a family member has graciously offered to pay for it now so the surgery can happen asap. Although this has been offered we prefer to not have to use their money, but if we do we would like to get them paid back as soon as possible. Our goal over the next month is to try and raise the funds needed to pay them back as quickly as possible, as they are pulling from their savings. SO...this is where we are asking our Finch BBQ Friends and Family for help!!
