Hi my name is Amari Rice, and I am starting a fundraiser to be able to afford my top surgery. I am a 20 year old trans man. I started questioning my gender around January of 2022, I did not have much education on the trans community and figured that my thoughts of not feeling secure and comfortable in my body were normal and would pass. Coincidentally, I started seeing trans men on my tik tok and my instagram feed and started to ask them questions about how they knew and following along their story. I questioned myself a lot and wondering if that was me too. It took a lot for me to admit to myself that I was trans but when I started telling my siblings and friends; I had so much support. Everyone was easily supportive with calling me by my preferred name and switching from she/her pronouns to he/him and I could not be anymore grateful. I started wearing a binder to compress my chest a few months before i came out and it helped ease my dysphoria greatly. Although it was not ideal for my lifestyle as I worked in a physically demanding warehouse. I’ve tried multiple styles and brands and have found that either way because of my job demands and the heat from the state I live in, that binding is not always a great option. I have also used trans tape and experimented with different sizes and different taping methods and found that this works better than binding but still not completely ideal financially. Officially I have been on testosterone for 11 months since February 2023. I have been trying to save up for top surgery for a little over half a year now but i’m finding it hard to save money while being able to pay for rent and all of my other bills. This was truly my last resort as asking for money is the last thing I want to do but it would mean a lot if anyone could help me reach my goal. Even just sharing is enough, thank you so much for reading my story.
