Update: On behalf of Ms. LaWanda Thomas, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, contributions, shares, and generosity. I've updated the goal from $10,000 to $20,000 as we've surpassed our initial goal. This will help provide a beautiful memorial service for RJ. Now, if we're able to keep this momentum, we can assist this family in rebuilding and providing a roof over their heads, clothing, furniture & toiletries. I've also requested sizes for clothing which I'll post below. If anyone is interested in contributing gift cards, clothing, furniture, etc., please reach out. I will provide a storage unit to gather donations until the family has a place to go.
From Ms. Thomas:
"
- women's size 20/xl/2x pants

- Size 9 1/2 women's shoes and 10/11c toddler shoe.

Hello, my name is l Nadia Quinn. On behalf of many residents of the Great City of Jennings, MO - with the assistance of State Representative Yolonda Fountain-Henderson, we are putting together all the assistance and community support we can gather. On Saturday, July 1st, 2023, straight-line winds produced by a thunderstorm in Jennings, MO caused several trees to break. One of those trees hit the house of RJ's family and completely demolished it. RJ was caught underneath and was unable to be rescued. To my knowledge, it took 45 minutes for help to arrive - a neighbor physically had to drive to the police station to get help as the 911 dispatch was immediately unavailable.
The Red Cross has yet to put the mother and another 3-year-old child up in an emergency shelter. A kind neighbor took the family in last evening, State Representative Yolonda Fountain-Henderson in coordination with another community support agency are assisting with the hotel stay for tonight.
The mother, LaWanda 'Nina' Thomas needs emergency shelter, funds for food, clothing, transportation, etc. This family has lost everything. The roof of the home is a gaping hole and all material items are a complete loss. Everything has been rained on and is inaccessible.
.
This mother will also need assistance to bury her son. Anything you can help with is greatly appreciated. Let's come together to show our support in their time of grief and need.
