50 Kids in School -Lavanneau, Haiti
We need your help sending 50 rural Haitian children to school!
In 2011 while my wife and I still lived in Haiti, we launched a K-12 scholarship fund to assist 10 poor families in our community. Recently, to continue this program we created a charity called Lavanno. Without this assistance the children would not have been able to go to school. Although $160 per child per year may seem outrageously low, or a like a fine dinner for two in the western world, that same sum in Haiti is absolutely prohibitive. 59% of the population makes $1 a day or less, at the same time the average in household has 7 children. Many of the parents are single-parents and make a living by trying to sell a few vegetables they grow.
Our work in Haiti came to an end in 2014, but Gina and I (with the help of a few good friends) have continued supporting these families and added 10 more students since.
This year, community leaders in Lavanneau reached out and asked if we could expand this vital program to include 30 more children. The expected cost for sending 50 kids to school for a full year is $8,000. We already have $2,000 and need to raise $6,000 by August. ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
