500km in one day for an EAL and ELL Library
Donation protected
Hi
I'm Ben Findlay, a Design Engineer and keen cyclist currently living in Norfolk. My wife, Kathy, is EAL Coordinator at Aylsham High School, where our boys attended school.
Aylsham High School is working hard to become a School of Sanctuary, committed to building a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere for students with English as an additional language and creating a culture of welcome and inclusion for refugees and people seeking asylum.
Part of Kathy's role involves sourcing resources and materials to help students progress in their learning.
Fundraising
Kathy would like to raise money to stock an EAL section in the school library, complete with easy readers, magazines and popular titles, so that those students who are still learning English can feel included and progress in their learning.
Where do I come into it?
As mentioned previously, I am a keen cyclist and have completed many sporting challenges over the years, including:
- Ironman UK
- Scottish Coast to Coast
- Several podium places in Olympic distance Triathlons
- I guided a partially sighted competitor in the British Triathlon Championships, and most recently,
- I won the Thetford Racing Winter Mountain Bike Series
- I achieved 16,125kms (just over 10,000 miles) of commuting mileage in 2021, on my bike
I've set myself a challenge of 500km (310 miles) cycling in just one day, having recently achieved 362km in 12 hrs and 42 minutes, BUT...
I need inspiration, support and motivation, so I'm asking you to sponsor me to complete the ride and help me raise money so that Kathy can build that EAL Library and help Aylsham High School to continue supporting students with English as an additional language.
P.S I will be completing the 500km on a day in June, chosen according to weather conditions and will update you all when it's done.
Wish me luck and please, get donating!
