Shalom, my name is Samantha and I am 11.5
years old. I have the most amazing
thing to tell you. This March I will become
a Bat Mitzvah and have an experience of a lifetime planned.
In March 2014, I am traveling to Israel with my family to have a
"Twinning Bat Mitzvah." That means I will share my Bat Mitzvah with another girl my age. Through the Chabad Terror Victims Project (http://www.ctvp.org) I was paired up with a girl named Shira from Jerusalem.
Let me tell you a little about Shira. Shira started her life in 2002 as a typical, healthy, happy baby. In August of 2003, when Shira was just 1 and half years old, her mom took her on, what should have been, a regular, nice bus-ride home, on "Egged Bus #2". As the bus traveled through the "Shmuel Hanavi" neighborhood, a terrorist suicide bomber entered the bus and blew himself up. Twenty three people were murdered and over 100 people, mainly children, were injured on that bus. As a result, Shira was blinded in her left eye and has shrapnel all over her body and till today, is still undergoing surgeries.
Recently, I was honored to be introduced to her as a pen-pal and I have also talked to her on the phone. I am really excited to celebrate my Bat Mitzvah with her.
As part of my Bat Mitzvah project I'm raising money for Shira and her family and the CTVP. I recently learned that in addition to all the medical procedures in Israel, Shira will hopefully be able to travel to NY this summer to undergo plastic surgery. I want to help her get to the states, for that important procedure. I would also like to try to help Shira and her family get connected to the internet so they can stay up to date on new medical treatments to help Shira and her family members still recovering from their injuries. (And of course so she can email me more frequently!!)
In Hebrew, "Chai" means life, and its numerical value is 18. My fundraising goal is to raise $3,600 which is 200 x 18 (Chai). Because "chai" signifies the life that we should always love. With your support, the support of my friends, family and community I hope to raise enough money to help Shira and other victims of terror, get some joy in her life. And I want to bless Shira with good luck.
I hope you will help me reach my goal for my Bat Mitzvah, by contributing in multiples of Chai - 18 because My "Chai-Raiser" is an opportunity to ADD LIFE, where terrorists have destroyed life!"
Thank you
Samantha
