50K run for Refugee Period Poverty

Donation protected

Join the 50K challenge for refugee period poverty!

This all started off as a fundraiser by 16 year-old Luke and a few of his mates, to raise money to cover the initial costs of his sister's new not-for-profit The Pachamama Project (www.thepachamamaproject.org), including the cost of material that cannot be donated, distribution costs of the Pacha Pads and other essential aid and some admin and UK postage costs.

The boys ran 10K a day for 5 days over October half term, to represent the distance between Aleppo in Syria and the Turkish border, a distance so many refugees have had to take to get to safety. Their run quickly gained some traction and soon, people around the UK were joining them to run the 50K challenge. They collectively raised over £2000! Amongst them, was the University of Bristol netball club who have decided to keep the challenge going by nominating rival teams to beat them. If you are a sports team, or an individual who wants to use this second Lockdown to get fit, we challenge you to do the same!

The Pachamama Project is a non profit community interest company growing a network of volunteers around the UK to make reusable sanitary pads for refugees. Period poverty is an international crisis where many cannot access safe sanitary products and often resort to using tissue, rags or even socks during their periods. This can make daily activities like going to school or work extremely difficult. Period poverty is particularly prevalent amongst refugees and with so many challenges already, the project aims to make sure having a period is not yet another.

The Pachamama Project aims to reach refugees all over the world and is currently distributing the Pacha Pads to refugees in  Greece and Lebanon, in Lesbos, Beirut and the Bekaa Valley.

The project is a university student initiative conceived during lockdown, in a time that shone a light on the most vulnerable people in society.

If you would like to take part in the challenge please get in touch for a sign up link by messaging the project on Instagra, Twitter or Facebook @thepachaproject https://www.facebook.com/thepachaproject/ and you can help us raise money to reach our goals.

Any donations or support on spreading the word about the fundraiser and the project would mean so much.
Choose a week that suits you, do the RUN, RAISE some money and CHALLENGE your friends and rivals to do the same!

Let's get running!
