52 Marathons in 52 Weeks
Donation protected
Hello!
As many of you will know every few years I set myself extreme physical and mental challenges for a good cause. This year my challenge is to run/walk/crawl 52 marathons within 52 weeks, to help provide school materials and library development opportunities to rural schools that happen to be negatively affected by the caste system in Nepal.
In 2019 I completed a similar project, having raised over £1000 we managed to give the school library of Ramkot village a new lease of life, while also providing backpacks and stationary to around 50 of the younger children of the school. This project is especially important as it helps to engage young minds in the world around them, providing a renewed experience of school life and an environment conducive to further education. Not only does this provide an opportunity for personal development, but further impacts wider communities in this progressing 21st century.
The target of £5,200 would positively benefit at least 3 schools, with the possibility of further extensions. The money raised shall contribute towards:
Libraries: Paint, books, bookcases, and flooring
Children: Backpacks, pencil cases and contents, notebooks
Playgrounds: sport equipment and play equipment
This project is in collaboration with the amazing organisation QUEST Nepal - headed by Salve and Deven - who offer volunteers opportunities to work in many different environments respective of skill set and objective. All flights will be paid for by myself, in order to ensure maximum benefits of the project.
Running 52 marathons over the course of the next year shall prove to be more than just a physical and mental challenge, as I shall also be finalising my degree in History; focusing on migration, faith and the impact of post-colonialism in the 20th century, whilst also working the weekends at my part time job.
In order to run at my best, I shall run in the early mornings depending on the sunlight schedules, and if I am out of the country I shall do my best to continue the 1 marathon per week, but there may be cases where I shall have to double up.
Ollie.
