Volunteering in a Refugee Camp on Lesvos, Greece

Hello! My name is Amy and I am fundraising to support my work on a Mavrovouni Refugee Camp on Lesvos, Greece. As conflicts engulf nations across the world, thousands of people have undertaken the dangerous and difficult journey towards Europe seeking safety and stability for themselves and their families.

Since March 2024 I have been working with the Greek NGO Eurorelief in response to the deep need of asylum seekers coming to Lesvos. My role in camp is to coordinate the distribution of Non-Food Items from our free shops. Through these distribution points we provide a new set of clothes for all new arrivals in camp, provide hygiene products for all families and single women, an appointment at our Free Shop which has clothing and other household items available and free diapers to all families with young children. Without our distribution points many people in camp would not have access to these necessary products. I am passionate about caring for and bringing hope to the refugee and the displaced and so I have committed to staying in this role until the end of March 2025.

Eurorelief holds a unique position where we provide many essential services inside the camp yet everyone who works with Eurorelief does so on a volunteer basis. Therefore as a volunteer I have to cover all of my living costs such as rent, food, transportation and insurance myself. These costs amount to €700 / £590 per month.
