Lt. Joseph Brana Cancer Relief Fund

Joseph Brana is a former Lieutenant in the United States Navy and a registered nurse who has worked at a world renowned cancer hospital in New York City. He has dedicated his life to helping his patients the same way he dedicated his life to serving our country. 

Joseph chose to become a nurse after serving 13 years in the U.S. Navy. His aspiration was to help people and care for those in need. Nursing seemed like a great fit. He obtained his Nursing degree after leaving the Navy and has worked as a nurse in trauma and critical care and post anesthesia environments where he has provided assistance and emotional support to his patients and their families for nearly 20 years. 
 
Recently, Nurse Joseph was diagnosed with Stage 3 squamous cell cancer, a disease he has helped so many overcome.  Due to his condition and his desired quality of life post treatment, he and his physicians have decided that Proton Radiation Therapy is the best course of action as it is less invasive than standard radiation treatment thus giving him a better opportunity to return to the profession he loves. Without this specific treatment he is likely to lose his ability to speak and in turn reduces his ability to continuing caring for the patients he loves. Unfortunately, the facility that specializes in this treatment is not covered by his medical insurance nor by the Veterans Administration. 

This is a critical time in Nurse Joseph’s life. Although he is surrounded by the love and support of his family and friends, he needs your help to overcome this devastating disease. We ask for your empathy and your help if you or someone you love has experienced what he is going through at this time.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 which is his out of pocket expense to receive this much needed treatment as soon as possible.  Anything and everything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated and will go directly to help save the life of a family man – a Navy veteran and a practicing nurse who has dedicated his life to serving others.
