Quarters for Kasey

Early on an October Saturday morning, Kasey was rushed to the hospital in incredible pain. It was shortly discovered he had pancreatitis, a painful inflammation of the pancreas. The cause of Kasey's pancreatitis is unknown, and it is unclear how to prevent further attacks. Kasey spent 6 days in the hospital and came home hopeful for a full and speedy recovery. After spending the weekend at home, Kasey returned to work. However, he did not get feeling any better, in fact, felt worse and worse each day. Upon returning to the Doctor, it was discovered that Kasey has diabetes and was put on an insulin treatments immediately. It is hopeful that his pancreas will begin functioning again and that his diabetes will go away on it's own, but until then, Kasey will need the expensive insulin shots each day to finishing healing. The process of healing has been very slow, and has required numerous, expensive tests.

Although his story of sickness and frustration is common to many, his is different because he does not currently have insurance. The medical bills are beginning to pile up, and the burden of them is almost overwhelming. Kasey is one of the hardest workers you will ever meet, and to be unable to go to work and support his family is very difficult. He is usually so full of life and dedication. Knowing that he has a slow recovery to full health, and realizing that the medical bills will probably be coming in before he has a chance to be ready for them is very frustrating.
