1st Annual Pack the Bus
Rural Relief Mobile Food Pantry is teaming up with Ben Wolford and The Portager to fight childhood hunger in the Waterloo Local School District. We will "Pack the Bus" for the children.
Rural Relief currently distributes groceries twice a month to the Atwater and Randolph areas of Portage County. Through our distributions we have encountered many sweet and grateful children. We have observed that the Atwater/Randolph area has a large number of multigenerational households. The majority of these families consist of grandparents raising grandchildren. We wanted to find a way to further fight food insecurity in the children of these communities. Our solution: to launch a Snack Sack program for the Waterloo Local School District. The Snack Sacks will provide students with enough snacks and food to carry them through the weekends and school breaks when meals aren't available at the school.
This is where Ben Wolford comes in. After featuring Rural Relief in The Portager, where he is the editor, he offered his support to the Snack Sack program. His wish is to carry on the legacy of his late aunt, Michelle Wolford. She was a native of Atwater before planting roots in rural West Virginia. She was a journalist and president of the local Rotary Club. She started a project with Food for Preston County called "Pack the Bus" to address food insecurity in her community. After she died in 2015, Pack the Bus continues in her honor . Ben would like to join with Rural Relief to expand it here in her hometown and his.
Please team up with Rural Relief Mobile Food Pantry & Ben Wolford to Pack the Bus and fight childhood hunger in rural Portage County. All donations will go towards purchasing food, bags, and the distribution of the Snack Sack program.
Thank you for supporting the children of rural Portage County.
