Help Baby Jax
Donation protected
This is Aiden Jax Herger. Jax was a super happy and energetic 6-month-old baby boy. But he and his family have been through so much in the last two weeks and still have a long road to walk ahead of them.
Two weeks ago, his grandmother Leeann checked on a napping Jax and was unable to awaken him. Leeann and his mother Samantha took him to an urgent care near home where it was immediately identified that this was something very serious. Prosper Fire Department and Paramedics responded to the call at Cook Children’s Urgent Care on 380 in Prosper to help. Jax was near death when he arrived and they worked on him, kept him alive, and called a medical life flight to bring him to Children’s Medical Center of Dallas. By doing so they saved his life.
After arriving at Children’s, the surgeons said Jax was dying when he arrived. They had to perform emergency brain surgery on him twice that day to save his life. After excruciating hours of waiting and praying, Jax’s family learned he had survived a near fatal hemorrhagic stroke that was the result of undiagnosed Hemophilia Type A Severe, so his blood does not clot. His condition can cause spontaneous bleeds in the brain, organs, muscles and joints. The surgeon stated he had a mass on the right side of his brain over the ear the size of a fist, which was pushing on the right side of his brain, his front temporal lobe and brain stem. This was blood that turned into two large masses, causing severe pressure in the cranium.
While in an induced coma for recovery, Jax experienced seizures, fever, fluid in his lungs, tremors, and swelling, but his medical teams were able to get him to a place where he was opening his eyes and aware of his surroundings and ready for a surgery to put his skull back. It's so hard to see little Jax in pain and uncomfortable, but we are so happy he has made it this far.
In the immediate aftermath of surgery and diagnosis, doctors are monitoring Jax’s progress and he is surrounded by family and loved ones. While the stroke did give him brain damage, he is a fighter. He is strong. He is being lifted up daily by everyone’s prayers. However, there is still a lot more fighting to do.
This rare form of blood disease comes with zero clotting factor, which means Jax will require transfusion, therapy and medical intervention for the rest of his life. He has health insurance, but we are unsure of exactly what they will pay for. Regardless, the family’s portion of responsibility for the treatment so far will be staggering. What’s more, Jax’s condition moving forward will require lifelong medical care. Medications to treat hemophilia cost an average of more than $270,000 annually per patient. If complications arise, that yearly price tag can soar above $1 million. The hope of setting up this page is so friends and family of Jax Herger can contribute to his care with donations of any amount, to help alleviate, even in small part the enormous undertaking in front of his young parents and grandparents.
Little Jax has been making improvements every day. Jax is such a tough little guy. He is surround by people who love and pray for him non-stop. God Bless all the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at Children’s Medical Center of Dallas that have helped our sweet little Jax. Bless all those at the Prosper Fire Department and Paramedics who are heroes. We are forever in your debt. God's love and protection is watching over Jax and giving him the strength he needs to recover. Even if you cannot give anything at this time, please pray for him. Thank you so much for all your love, faith and prayers!!!
