What a journey this has been so far.  It would have been infinitely harder without all your love, care, support and prayers.

Our community has held us up when we were down, fed us, prayed over us, donated time, talent and treasure.  You have seen us at our best and worst. As the people of Hope we must pedal forward. We must believe in what is possible.

Severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a long, winding journey with no road map.

Perspective: Sam IS A WALKING, TALKING MIRACLE.  Based on the 4 types of TBI he sustained in this accident, he should be dead or otherwise.

But that was not HIStory for our Bubs.

Many of you have commented how good Sam looks in videos and photos.   He does look good continues to improve physically. Severe TBI is deceptive.  Although, many physical strides have been made, we, many days, loose ground that we thought we had gained back.  The mental road back is a much harder and longer journey.

Sam will never fully be the same.  What lies beneath in the darkness of the brain is really something that medical science is limited to fully understand.

Sam has many miraculous steps forward, but also has many miles and days of backward, halting or restarting progress.  These darker, cloudy days/seasons find us in a difficult place with little knowledge of the way forward to the "new normal."

We DO have a compass that points us to True North, deep Hope in the dark when we see no way through, and Belief that as Isaiah 43:18-19 is true:

"Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing something new!
Now it springs up; Will you see it?
I am making Roadways in the wilderness
and Streams in the desert."

Thank you for all the ways big and small you have given to our family.

THE WAYS YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS HAVE SUPPORTED SAM & JILL SINCE THE ACCIDENT:

1.  Coverage of Flight For Life helicopter which saved Sam's life (28k)

2.  Coverage of Long-Term Care Deductible which allows for much needed care in the home for Sam and much needed margin for Jill & Family in our full-time care-taking duties (25k)

3.  Air Travel to and from Craig Hospital (Craig Hospital is where Bubs has been receiving world-class therapy and care for his traumatic brain injury (TBI).  Craig is a world-renowned, premier center for specialty rehabilitation and research for people with spinal cord and brain injury)

4.  Ongoing medical bills and medications not covered by Medicare.

Will you partner with us again to co-labor in this journey?

THE NEEDS FOR SAM & JILL GOING FORWARD:

1.  The driver that hit Sam admitted fault, but was grossly under-insured for this type of life-altering accident.  We therefore have had to find other ways & use our insurance to cover the exorbitant medical costs.

2.  Ongoing medical bills and medications not covered by Medicare (The majority of Medicare coverage will likely mostly end when Outpatient Therapy Program at Craig ends at the end of September 2019)

3.  Ongoing home care for Sam which gives Jill & Family much needed breaks in our full-time care-taking duties

4.  Ongoing therapy classes & outside resources when no longer covered by Medicare (personal trainers, recreation therapy, TBI support groups, counseling services, etc.)

For those of you that know Our Bubs, he is an incredibly generous and inspirational person.   An amazing father, husband and grandfather. He has helped champion and care for so many people in need throughout his life.  More recently, he found a love for cycling as a way to connect with others riding for numerous charitable causes such as Project 658,  the Charlotte Eagles and completing Ride the Rockies for several years in a row, raising money for Team Samaritan House to help the homeless in Denver, CO.   We are asking for your help as my dad fights for his own life and recovery.

Please pray for Sam and if you can support in anyway please donate here.   And feel free to share this page however and with whomever you feel would like to support or follow his situation.     We will do our best to keep you updated on his condition. On behalf of our entire family, thank you for prayers and generosity during this difficult time.

You can follow along on updates and other ways you can help at CaringBridge. We will do our best to keep updates there.  Sam & Jill's Casey Caring Bridge
