Grants for the Finish Line

On January 12th, 2014 at 5:30 am, after four years of extensive training, I will embark upon one of the most grueling athletic endeavors - I will begin to run the 26.2 mile course of the Walt Disney World Marathon! On my journey to this marathon, running has gone from a source of fitness, to a passion for personal growth and mental and physical betterment.
Along with my passion for running, I have a passion for helping young people achieve their dreams. After teaching for four years in urban DC schools, and many more mentoring high school and college-level students, I know how difficult it is for students to not only attend college, but stay enrolled and graduate.
So as this marathon looms closer, I feel compelled to combine my two passions - running and helping youth. On January 12th, I will be running with a very specific goal in mind - to start a "Perseverance Grant Fund" for a very special group of college students. These grants will go towards the many expenses that threaten these students' ability to stay enrolled in college and on-track each semester.
This year's recipients are:
-Priscilla Lyle - Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, TX
-Salim Lancaster - Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI
-Anthony Lewis - Millersville University in Millersville, PA
-Tony Rogers - Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI
Please check out the posts on this page to learn more about each of the students and what they need to succeed. I hope that you can help me reach my goal of $3000 by the time I cross the finish line on Sunday, January 12th! Thank you!
