Here at Space Pioneers we are all about dreaming big and following our dreams.

We are a non-profit association that uses space to ignite ambition and allow the young generations to achieve anything in life.

The Idea

We are Tommaso, Veronica, and Kareem. The inspiration for Space Pioneers sprang from our experience and time working with children and teenagers. We witnessed firsthand how the boundless enthusiasm and fiery dreams of young minds gradually dim as they grow older. Their once vivid aspirations slowly fade, tucked away in the dusty corners of forgotten drawers.

The problem

In today’s fast-paced world, young dreams are often sidelined by daily pressures and a lack of opportunities to explore their passions. A 2023 study by the National Center for Educational Research revealed that 60% of young people feel their ambitions are stifled by social and economic barriers. Their curiosity about the universe is suppressed, leaving them unable to see how their dreams could become reality.

This loss of hope is a serious issue, undermining our future by depriving the world of potential innovators, creatives, and visionaries. But through our journey into the world of space, we discovered an environment where dreams can be reignited.

In the vast expanse of the universe, we saw how people can rediscover the potential of their dreams and learn to pursue them without giving up. Space Pioneers was created to rekindle that spark, providing a place where young minds can dream big and find the courage and tools to turn those dreams into reality.

Our solution

Space Pioneers is our solution to reigniting young dreams and curiosity. We offer dynamic and interactive programs that immerse young minds in the wonders of space exploration, providing the resources and experiences they need to turn imagination into reality.

Our mission is to keep young people's dreams and curiosity alive by equipping them with the tools and opportunities for space exploration. With tailored educational programs for every age group, we empower the next generation to dream big and reach for the stars.

Our activities

International Space Camp for Elementary Schools: Our camp sparks curiosity and excitement in young minds through engaging, hands-on activities. Kids will experience the wonders of space with simulated spacewalks in astronaut suits, build small rockets and rovers, conduct science experiments, and walk across a scale model of the solar system. They'll even get to taste astronaut food, gaining a unique insight into life in space. Innovative workshops on propulsion and aerodynamics make learning fun and safe. Our goal is to ignite the spark of curiosity in children by offering practical and engaging experiences that stimulate their interest in space exploration.

Space Exploration Game for High Schools: This collaborative, non-competitive event challenges students to design a comprehensive space mission. They'll consider scientific, engineering, human, artistic, psychological, and sociological aspects, along with practical issues like safety, food production, and recycling. By participating, teenagers will develop critical scientific, engineering, and creative skills, exploring the multifaceted dimensions of space missions.

Commercial Analog Astronaut Missions in Italy: Planned for late 2024 in Trentino, these are world's first commercial missions simulating real space missions. Participants will experience isolation, limited communication, a space freeze-dried diet, innovative hygiene solutions without running water, extreme environments, and intense daily physical training. These missions aim to enhance preparation for future space missions and test new products or services that can improve life on Earth. Partnering with companies from non-space sectors, we seek to boost scientific and technological advancements in fields such as medicine, biotech, nutrition, and health, fostering business growth and innovative solutions for everyday life.

Collaborations

We’ve teamed up with a range of partners and companies to add depth to our mission, with our first missions set for late 2024 in Trentino. By collaborating with major space agencies, industry leaders, and academic institutions, we’re developing innovative projects that push the boundaries of exploration. These missions are a pivotal step toward achieving our goal of leading in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education and space exploration.

Education is at the core of our activities, starting with the youngest students. We champion both STEM and STEAM, believing that art and culture are vital to daily life. This blend fuels creativity and problem-solving skills, essential for facing future challenges. Our efforts are backed by the Italian Space Agency, which supports all our activities with a patronage, and the European Space Agency through ESERO (European Space Education Resource Office), helping us reach a broader network of schools and educators.

A key pillar of our Space Camp and Analog Astronaut missions is the emphasis on physical and mental health. We work with experts in medicine and psychology to provide participants with comprehensive training that includes stress management and well-being promotion. This holistic approach is crucial not only for the success of space missions but also for enhancing the quality of life on Earth.

Our Dream Team

Our volunteers form a dynamic international team of 15 multidisciplinary individuals, each bringing unique skills and a shared passion for innovation. This diverse group has already proven their ability to execute ambitious projects of a similar scope, blending their distinct backgrounds to create something truly remarkable.

Tommaso Tonina: Hello, I'm Tommaso Tonina, a space engineer, entrepreneur, and Analog Astronaut. I see space as a stimulating and ingenious frontier that pushes the boundaries of technology and innovation. My work focuses on building autonomous labs for life science research in space, aiming to develop new drugs, study aging, bacteria, viruses, stem cells, and cancer. This research not only improves life on Earth but also supports humanity's deep space exploration.

Veronica Cristellon: Hi, I’m Veronica Cristellon, an emerging children’s book illustrator. My introduction to the world of space has unleashed my creativity and innovative spirit, allowing me to see opportunities in challenges I once overlooked. Collaborating with this team has opened new horizons and helped me bring my ideas to life.

Kareem Lewis: Hello, I’m Kareem Lewis. With two engineering master's degrees and extensive project management experience, I am excited to promote this transformative project. I believe in the power of our dreams to shape a brighter future.

To bring our vision to life, we need your support. Your donations will allow us to purchase educational materials such as rocket models, space food, and simulation equipment, develop new practical and interactive activities for all age groups, and organize educational events listed above. The funds we are raising for our annual activities in Autumn 2024 will be evenly split between the three core activities.
