Words from Barbie, Eddie's wife and the love of his life.
"When I think about Eddie, so much love comes to mind. He is a great Dad, husband & grandfather. I think back to when this horrible journey started. In February of 2020, we noticed a bump on his leg. The next thing we were told was he had T-cell Lymphoma. T-cell Lymphoma is a rare type of blood cancer where white blood cells develop abnormalities that make them attack the skin. From that season on, our lives changed when our working schedules were consumed with countless appointments back and forth to Boston and radiation/chem... In January 2022, Eddie's cancer worsened, and he started to get open wounds on his legs. He began being sick all the time. Time and time again, he would have fevers and be hospitalized. Eddie was then re-diagnosed with a very aggressive blood cancer called Gamma Delta. When the doctors saw the progression of Gamma Delta and how he became sicker and sicker by the day, they diagnosed him with a second cancer called HLH. HLH is a strong activation of the immune system, mainly found in children. Eddie had a bigger fight when he was hospitalized. It was hard on his body because he had to learn to walk and regain his memory. Around this time, Eddie was scheduled for a bone marrow transplant; however, it got set back because he once again was hospitalized. Eddie has been out of work since March 2022, and recently, I had to stop working because he needs full-time care. Eddie has never not worked, but this disease is overwhelming. Through all the pain, Eddie always still has his same smile and little giggle. Eddie's Stem Cell transplant is rescheduled for July 12th 2022. Following the procedure, he will be living in a hotel for 3 weeks, (2 weeks paid by the hospital and 1 week we'll have to pay out of pocket). He will have a long fight after the surgery because we will have to wait and see how his body will accept it. We will know more once the first 100 days pass and see how the new bone marrow will affect him. He will have an extremely low immune system for the first year after the transplant. He has a beautiful soul and is so full of life. Through the pain, hurt and challenge this evil sickness has caused, we are still on this long path, but we are climbing that mountain to reach the top."
Eddie has been not just an employee but the glue to Preowned Auto Logistics (PAL). Eddie has worked with PAL and the many people involved with PAL over the last 15 years. & we want to help him, Barbie and their family. PAL wants to raise $50,000 for the Collado Family. He is a treasure to meet and know, and everybody he comes in contact with knows that.
Thank you so much if you feel led to help support Eddie and his fight. We are thankful for you.
