Support Jamie's Fight Against Multiple Sclerosis

Hello, my name is Nilson Sanabria and this is my older sister Jamie. Jamie is 26 years old and was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) during the peak of her life. She has always had the biggest dreams and works very hard in order to fulfill these dreams. With her diagnosis coming right before her marriage, Jamie's life took an unexpected turn. MS is an autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the nervous system, disrupting the communication between the brain and body. Those diagnosed with MS suffer from symptoms like difficulty walking, depression, muscle paralysis, and difficulty speaking. Jamie will spend the rest of her life with MS.

Jamie and I are not just siblings. We are best friends and an inseparable duo. My heart breaks everyday for Jamie. She has always been my biggest role model. She's extremely intelligent, and her work ethic is second to none. Her biggest dream was to become a firefighter but she would experience leg numbness and muscle fatigue resulting in her having to walk with a cane. While Jamie's dream of becoming a firefighter came to a halt, her desire to help people grew stronger. She was on the path to becoming a nurse when she was finally diagnosed. Jamie spent Christmas and New Year's in the hospital. During this time her condition worsened.

Doctors discovered various lesions in her brain. These lesions resulted in the inability for Jamie to move the facial muscles on the right side of her face. She now struggles in a state of confusion, difficulty speaking and the inability to walk on her own. Nurses assist her in everyday tasks such as eating and using the restroom.Jamie is currently awaiting stabilization for depression and other medical concerns before she can be transferred to Burke Rehabilitation Hospital. Through the extensive imaging, hospital stays, and bloodwork, the insurance provided by her job has refused to cover a lot of the costs. Outside bills have also been piling up and we are struggling to keep up. Jamie's wife and we, her family, are doing the best we can to advocate for Jamie and help, but we need your help.

Hola, mi nombre es Nilson Sanabria y esta es mi hermana mayor, Jamie. Jamie tiene 26 años y fue diagnosticada con Esclerosis Múltiple (EM) en el mejor momento de su vida. Siempre ha tenido los sueños más grandes y trabaja muy duro para cumplirlos. Con su diagnóstico justo antes de su matrimonio, la vida de Jamie dio un giro inesperado. La EM es una enfermedad autoinmune en la que el sistema inmunológico ataca el sistema nervioso, interrumpiendo la comunicación entre el cerebro y el cuerpo. Las personas diagnosticadas con EM sufren de síntomas como dificultad para caminar, depresión, parálisis muscular y dificultad para hablar. Jamie pasará el resto de su vida con EM.

Jamie y yo no somos solo hermanos. Somos mejores amigos y una pareja inseparable. Mi corazón se rompe todos los días por Jamie. Siempre ha sido mi mayor modelo a seguir. Es extremadamente inteligente, y su ética de trabajo no tiene comparación. Su mayor sueño era convertirse en bombera, pero empezó a experimentar entumecimiento en las piernas y fatiga muscular, lo que le obligó a usar un bastón para caminar. Ahora lucha en un estado de confusión, con dificultades para hablar y la incapacidad de caminar por sí misma. Las enfermeras la asisten en tareas diarias como comer y usar el baño. Jamie está esperando estabilizarse por la depresión y otras preocupaciones médicas antes de poder ser transferida al Hospital de Rehabilitación Burke. A través de las extensas imágenes, estancias hospitalarias y análisis de sangre, el seguro proporcionado por su trabajo ha rechazado cubrir muchos de los costos. Además, las facturas externas también se están acumulando y estamos luchando para ponernos al día. La esposa de Jamie y nosotros, su familia, estamos haciendo todo lo posible para abogar por Jamie y ayudar, pero necesitamos su ayuda.
