London Marathon 2024 - Brain and Spine Foundation

On Sunday 21st April, I will be running the 2024 London Marathon, 'the greatest marathon in the World', for the Brain and Spine Foundation.

Why the Brain and Spine Foundation?

In November 2022 a family friend, Alex Fletcher, collided with the concrete advertising wall whilst playing for Bath City FC. He lost consciousness when arriving at the hospital and was in a coma for the following 5 days. He had to have fluid drained from his brain and had to undergo surgery to remove part of his skull and vertebrae due to the cause of his swelling. The surgeons said his chances of surviving were slim. Fast forward to today and Alex has learnt how to walk again, and even eyeing up a move back to playing football. Alex is still deaf in his left ear and occasionally experiences vertigo and double vision.

The Brain and Spine Foundation support over 650 conditions including Parkinson's Disease and Stroke - two conditions which have affected my family.

Together, brain and spine conditions affect more than 12 million people in the UK. That's around 1 in 6. These conditions often have long-term impacts without the prospect of a cure. Neurological conditions and associated treatments are often complex and poorly understood by those affected and their families.

The Brain & Spine Foundation aims to improve the quality of life of people affected by neurological conditions by providing expert information, support and education.

Thank you.
