A New Life for Our Girls

I'm reaching out for some help in these tough times. After 10 years of helping raise my step-daughter, her two sisters, and their mom from across the country, we're going to be one big happy family soon! Karly and her girls, Ezi (14), Aeris (7), and Avionah (4), live in Wisconsin with their two cats, Lucifer and Munchie, but next month they will be moving to Seattle.

We have been struggling to make ends meet for them in their hometown in Wisconsin. Karly has no in-person support, no financial support, and has not had a paycheck since the last stimulus check over 6 months ago. Despite applying for over 70 jobs in 2020, she either has not been hired or has been unable to keep a job due to a lack of legal protections from being fired for needing to care for her kids during COVID. She does not qualify for unemployment in WI because of this. Their town also does not have the medical support necessary for the girls. In-town options for children are severely limited, and almost always inaccessible. They've had to drive over 6 hours across the state for care. And on top of all of this, Wisconsin has become increasingly hostile for our interracial family. The girls have always been bullied for being Black by their peers and teachers, and it has only gotten worse. 

We are out of ways to help them live in WI and we are at a breaking point. With no money coming in and no hope of changing circumstances there, the only chance they have at survival is moving to a place where they have access to better resources and support, which for them is in Seattle. Here, they're closer to a support network committed to raising the girls together, job opportunities and protections for Karly, and better, more welcoming schools for the girls.

We no longer have the choice of trying to make this distance work, and things need to change fast. But unfortunately, we don't have the resources to make the move alone. I'm asking for your help in covering the cost of their move to a new place in Washington. To make this happen, we're hoping to raise $10,000. With your help, we can pay for moving costs, flights, apartment move-in fees, and a car for Karly to be able to start work ASAP.

$2000: Used car in WA for family & job transportation (their current vehicle won't make a cross-country trip)
$3500: Moving supplies, shipping, refurnishing
$1500: Travel expenses for 4
