My name is Mike Robertson, I am the proud uncle of a superman; Colten. Colten has had a rough road in his short life. He was born February 15, 2013 a seemingly perfect, healthy, baby boy in Duluth, MN. His parents were on a high with their first baby and the hospital staff telling them how they could go home earlier than the normal 2 days later. As you can imagine, they were very excited to begin their family together. That excitement would quickly fade as by the afternoon, Colten was being life flighted to Children's hospital in Minneapolis, with Krista and Brooks told only that their perfect baby had a heart murmur. He was diagnosed with Congenital Heart Defects. Over the next seven months Colten would undergo six open heart surgeries as well as tracheotomy and pacemaker. Throughout this, Krista and Brooks never left his side. September 16, 2013 Colten was strong enough to return home. Since then, they have added a little brother to the family and Colten had been doing great. September 2015, Colten was driven to the hospital in the middle of the night and while they had hoped his heart would be something that could be maintained with meds alone, they are now told that Colten's special heart will likely not be able to be his heart anymore. Colten has now been transferred to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, three hours from their home in Duluth. The hospital estimates 3-6 months wait for a transplant with an additional 3-6 months in recovery.
We have created this page to help Brooks and Krista afford food and their monthly payments as they show Colten the love and support that he needs and raise his little brother in a town they do not live in as they fight Congenital Heart Defects and wait for a transplant.
This family has been through more in the first seven months of Colten's life than most families go through in a generation. To think, they may be repeating the agony of this journey is heartbreaking.
If you would like to track Colten's progress, please follow his caringbridge at- http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/coltenrobertson
Also, please follow project heart to heart on facebook.
I can't thank you enough for reading this. Please support as you can. My greatest hope for them is that they can fight this battle without the concerns of having a home to go back to or how they will afford their next meal and that Colten will come home to be the big brother that he was born to be.
Thank you for your support.
Here's me and Colten, this past July.
