Funds for an Electric wheelchair
Donation protected
Hello,
My name is Charlotte, and this is my story.
A few months ago, I was diagnosed with two life long, debilitating conditions called Functional Neurological Disorder and Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder.
My life has been turned upside down by these illnesses. Just a few months ago I was a fully fit, healthy young women with dreams to travel the world. Yet now, I have had to learn how to walk again, rely on a wheelchair daily, aswell as dealing with Tics, chronic fatigue and episodes of functional seizures, which means most days I am unable to even get out of bed or leave the house.
These leave me with temporal paralysis, meaning I cannot walk or often even move after these episodes.
Throughout all this, I have been determined to carry on, trying to get back to work and live a normal life as much as I can. Unfortunately, my condition is deteriorating, meaning I now rely on my wheelchair and others to care for me. My partner has become my carer and I now have no choice but to rely on someone being with me almost 24/7 for my safety.
Depsite this, I have been refused help to gain an electric powered wheelchair, since I am young and apparently I do not qualify for this on the NHS.
An electric wheelchair would allow me to leave the house alone and become more independent. It would allow me to return to work and live a much more free life without relying on everyone 24/7. I want to fight these conditions with all the strength I can gather and raise awareness. FND is becoming more and more common in younger women, but quite frankly not a lot is known about it or how to treat it.
I didn’t want to have to get to this stage, but without support I am not able to get a chair, and therefore I have started this GoFundMe.
Should my target be exceeded, I will donate a percentage to FND Action, a charity that support people with FND just like me.
From the bottom of my heart, Thankyou to anyone who makes a donation. You really are contributing to changing my life
