Help Evelyn Beat Cancer!

Our Beautiful Feisty Daughter

Evelyn is a typical 4 year old. She loves unicorns, dancing, princesses, school, her friends, running and swimming. She is feisty and strong and funny. And up until April this year, had never really even had more than a bad cold in her four short years of life.

The Horror Diagnosis
That changed on April 17th when Evelyn was diagnosed with one of the rarest and most aggressive childhood cancers there is: Neuroblastoma. Her diagnosis is "stage 4 high-risk" which means her fight is longer, harder, and her chance of beating the disease is significantly less.

Treatment: The Long Road Ahead
Evelyn faces six rounds of 'normal' chemotherapy, surgery, high-dose chemotherapy, bone marrow transplants, and then - if we are lucky and can get to this stage (see below) - immunotherapy and (hopefully) acceptance onto a trial in New York for a series of newly developed vaccines which are showing promising results in preventing relapse.

Why We Need Help
Neuroblastoma is a nasty insidious disease and the relapse rates are around 60%. Once you relapse, the treatment options are extremely limited - if possible at all - and the chance of survival is essentially nil. Evelyn might beat the disease this time, but it nearly always comes back and is then fatal.

We want more for our daughter than these horrible odds.

There are two ways we can give her a better shot at surviving long term, and they are: Immunotherapy (where you try to teach the body to recognise and fight the cancer cells itself) and the Bivalent vaccine trial through Sloan-Kettering hospital in New York. Immunotherapy has been shown to increase the chances of not relapsing by 20%, and the vaccine trial is showing promising results that it can increase this even further.

In the UK, the US and Australia to name a few, immunotherapy is offered as standard - but not in Thailand.  Our insurance is unlikely to cover this expensive treatment. The vaccine trial will also require multiple trips to New York as well as the cost to join the trial.

We are throwing ourselves on the kindness of friends, family and strangers to help us give our little girl a life - give her the chance to keep dancing, running and loving unicorns. To help give her the chance to grow up.

The Money Raised
Will be used to fund any treatments - like those detailed above - that is not covered by our insurance, and any other promising treatments we may find or need along the way. Evelyn should finish the 'standard' protocol of treatment, and be heading into 'immunotherapy territory' around the end of this year.

Any money that is not used will be used in the following ways:
- If Evelyn beats her cancer: it will be for any further treatments that may be needed, or a potential relapse.
- If she doesn't: the money will be donated to Neuroblastoma Charities in order to help fund further research into this dreadful and awful disease. These kids deserve a much better outlook: a less toxic  and destructive treatment plan - and then, ultimately, a cure.
