30003MISSION: DELIVER WATER FILTRATION SYSTEMS TO CEBU, PHILIPPINES
Friday 11/8/2013 4:30am, Typhoon Haiyan, said to be "the strongest storm in human history", slammed into the eastern coastal city of Tacloban, Philippines.
With sustained winds of 197 mph and wind gusts of 235, it was more powerful than "Katrina" and "Sandy" combined. (video link)
TOTAL DESTRUCTION AND DEVASTATION IN IT'S PATH!
They have lost their dearly loved!Latest death toll, 3621, but will rise in the weeks to come.(video link)
They have lost their homes!
"Nearly 1.6 Mln displaced in Typhoon hit Philippines." (link)
Nearly all food and water has been contaminated and ruined by seawater, debris, and decaying remains.
"There's no need to assess anymore. These people here have lost everything. They need everything." -Nonoy Fajardo, Disaster Risk Reduction and Emergency Specialist
I'M GOING!
Call me what you will, but I can't NOT do something. Not a stranger to natural disasters, one of my favorite things about my crazy job is that it has allowed me to serve victims of natures fury. I know I am full of flaws, restless and impatient, but: I am compelled to GO! I will serve in anyway I can. Of first and utmost importance however...Clean water!
"Without it (*clean water), people struggling to rebuild and even survive risk catching intestinal and other diseases that can spread if they're unable to wash properly." -Fox News
"We take clean water for granted, but when it is taken away, you can't start rebuilding your home, plant crops, take care of your family, you can't think straight until this need is met." - Matthew Moore
Specifically, I will travel, equipped with water filtration systems (link), and I will find 3 community minded individuals to leave them in their care. EACH filter, is capable of producing 13,000 gallons on it's original filter. TIMES 3!!! That's 624,000 CLEAN CUPS OF WATER!! That means $10 will essentially sustain the average person for an entire 365 days!!! $100= 10 people for the whole year...Now we're able to make some progress!
Clean water REALLY is the beginning of restored lives.
So, I am heading out on this adventure and would be so humbled if any of you would want to help financially. 100% of the money you give will go directly to this effort. (I am not asking for support for my plane ticket, and I have a free place to stay while I'm there). Also, I will be video documenting this trip and hopefully creating a documentary when I return. I will post updates on what I am doing and share stories of those I am privileged to serve along the way. Thank you and Godspeed!
