Hi, my name is Yolanda. I am a 57 year old mother of 2 and grandmother of 3.
- The last week of April, I was dealing with a lot of pain in my left leg, I have severe osteoarthritis in the knee. My husband was working out of state that week. I had called out of work that Monday and Tuesday I went to the doctor. As usual they told me there was nothing they could do, it was the arthritis flaring up. Wednesday morning I decided to bite the bullet and go to work. I had got up to go to the bathroom. I was holding on to the dresser to go around the corner. I'm nearly to the door when my leg gave out. I fell at the foot of the bed. I was in so much pain, it felt like my leg was straight up in the air, I don't know if it was, but it felt like it.
- I called 911, endured a horrific ride to the Grady ER. X-rays showed I had a very bad break in my left femur and my knee was partially crushed.
- After surgery, I learned that I would be wheelchair bound, non weight bearing for at least 12 weeks.
- I applied for my short term disability benefits and learned that the be benefits would not start for 15 days. So I have to deal with no money whatsoever for 2 weeks. Most of my bills, my car payment, insurance, mortgage, utilities due next week and no money to pay them. I need help to catch up, then I should be fine. I just got this house and I can't loose it now. please help
