Help save our kims life

On the 23rd of December 2021 our mum (mother-in-law) Kim went to the GP surgery as she was feeling unwell, and we had noticed that her skin was turning jaundice. The GP took her bloods and said they'd be in touch once the results came back. At 4am on the 24th of December my mum received a call from St. Thomas's hospital asking her to make her way to the hospital within the hour as her blood test indicated that she had liver failure. This was very scary and we managed to get her to the hospital where she had a number of tests, CT Scans, Ultrasounds and X-Rays. On Christmas day our mum was hit with the news that the problem was in her pancreas and to prepare for the worst as they suspected Cancer.

 

A biopsy was carried out and 10 days later (which seemed to be the longest 10 days of our lives) the Doctors confirmed our worst fears and diagnosed mum with Pancreatic Cancer. We were praying that the Doctors would be able to offer surgery to remove the tumour, as we knew it was our only hope of curing mum, and although this is thankfully what they are aiming to do, they have said that they must try to shrink the tumour away from the nearby blood vessels through chemotherapy before they would be in a position to perform surgery.

 

However, 6 years ago mum was diagnosed with a very rare lung condition called Anti-GBM (Good Pastures Disease), which caused her to have 4 lung haemorrhages which have left her with a very low immune system which in turn means her immune system is a lot weaker at fighting infections and viruses, so to have chemotherapy alone, would be very risky for her, so we have been researching all day, every day to find alternatives to chemotherapy or treatments that could strengthen her immune system whilst she undergoes chemotherapy, and we have managed to find a treatment called Mistletoe Therapy which helps increase the bodies natural immune system and can also help to shrink tumours. Mistletoe Therapy was available on the NHS up until 2 years ago, but unfortunately, it isn’t available anymore, and now the only way to get Mistletoe Therapy is through private clinics.

 

After researching Pancreatic Cancer, we are now aware that it is a real hard cancer to treat but Mum is a very positive thinking woman, who will fight this all the way and we as a family will support her in every way possible to get her cured.

 

Some of you reading this page may remember Kim from JAKS Salon in Rotherhithe street. She was the hairdresser and beautician and the salon was her pride and joy, but sadly due to the lung condition, she had to give it all up. Anyone that knows Kim as a friend or as a previous client will know what a beautiful hearted lady she is. I was with Mum every day at the salon helping her in any way I could, and I saw first-hand how much she loved her clients and they loved her. She always gives so much time to others and always puts everyone else first, and it's heartbreaking to see her going through this.

 

If for any reason the combined Chemotherapy and Mistletoe Therapy do not shrink the tumour as much as we hope, we have also looked at a number of other treatments that are available and we will try these too, but we’re hoping and praying that the combination is successful in shrinking the tumour, which will enable mum to have surgery on the NHS. There are also a number of private clinics that will offer surgery to remove the tumour but this is a very expensive procedure.

 

These treatments are very expensive and as a family, we are doing everything we possibly can to pay for them, but we’re realistic that there is only so much we can do, so if you're reading this and you are able to help contribute at all, we as a family would be very grateful to you.
