The amount of times I’ve heard, “Cody is the most positive person I’ve ever met!” in the last 72 hours is plentiful. Even his nurses and doctors are amazed by his attitude given his current situation, and if you know Cody, it won’t surprise you that he’s kept everyone laughing from his hospital bed.
Monday morning Cody was in a tragic accident. He was at work on his golf cart when he was struck by a car. He fractured his C-4 and C-5 and sustained a spinal cord injury. At the moment he has limited mobility in his arms, and he is unable to move his legs.
But we know our Cody Boy is going to walk again, play kickball, basketball, football, and do all the things he loves to do.
He’s endured 8+ hours of surgery in the last four days like an absolute champ, and he told us this morning, “They started Day 1 of rehab on me already because I’m a lion! Look what my arms can do already! Only a lion can move their arms like this!”
If you’ve ever been in a room with Cody, it’s impossible not to feel his electric energy. I have truly never met a human who does not like him. He is sunshine in human form. He is a ball of energy and pure joy. He is incredibly kind, positive, loving and the list goes on. He is all things good, and he needs your help.
100% of the money donated will help cover hospital bills, surgeries, inpatient rehab, and help cover his bills until he is able to work again.
If Cody has ever brightened your day, put a smile on your face or made you laugh, please consider helping him out during this difficult time.
We are incredibly grateful to each and every one of you. Your support, be it financial, emotional, and most importantly your prayers, mean the world to us.
A few of my favorite quotes from the last couple of days:
“The way you entertain crowds by just being your natural self is inspiring. You are an absolute specimen and a warrior who doesn’t know when to quit.” — Steve, friend
On Cody getting plates and screws in his neck: “Like Cody needs any more help. He is already bionic.” — Jason, friend
UPDATE FEB 3: Cody has made incredible strides in the last four and a half months! He’s regained movement throughout 90% of his body after being paralyzed from the chest down initially, and we cannot express the amount of gratitude we have for the blessings God has given us.
Most recently, with a ton of effort, he was able to use a walker and stand up on his own for the first time!! The fight in him amazes me, though it’s no surprise if you know Cody.
His spirit continues to inspire so many of you daily, and we cannot thank you enough for sharing stories of his inspiration with us. You all give us hope, encouragement and a level of support that is beyond what we ever could’ve dreamed up.
Thank you!
We have big expenses on the horizon: a manual wheelchair and continued therapy as we’ve burned through our sessions covered by insurance.
The chair is expected to cost somewhere between $7k-$10k.
Therapy is $25, $50 or $90 depending on the session.
Above the financial support, we most appreciate your prayers.
If you are able to sponsor a therapy session, contribute to the cost of his new chair or even just share his story, we would appreciative.
100% of your contributions go directly to therapy, his new chair and continued bills.
Thank you for following along on our journey to walking again!!
