UPDATE

*Hello everyone, please do ignore the amount you see on the page. We had a slight issue with our account hence the change in the total amount raised. Due to your generosity, we raised a total of $13, 490. We need a little more help so we can complete the final post-production process for this humble project.
We appreciate your love and support.

A very big "Thank You" to all our generous donors and friends! Because of your generosity, THE HAIL MARY was successfully and safely filmed on locations in Livingston and Bozeman Montana. The film stars talented actors: Ozzie Jones, Sean Michael Harrison, Tinesha Ersland, Rachel Missie among other amazing cast members with a cameo appearance by the Mayor of Helena, Wilmot Collins, the first black Mayor of any city in Montana since its statehood in 1889. We were also privileged to have the support of American rock climber, mountaineer and author, Conrad Anker (who also serves as an associate producer), the YETI team, and Academy winning documentary filmmaker and rock climber, Jimmy Chin.

OUR PLEA

Due to some necessary and unforeseen expenses, we need to graciously ask those who can to dig a little deeper to help us reach our extended goal of $20,000 (USD)

$6,510  more will further professional editing, visual effects (VFX), sound design/score, color-grading and also help us to continue to submit the final work to film festivals within the United States and the international sphere and hopefully get a distribution opportunity.

We have a winner in our hands and we want you to enjoy the sweet taste of victory with us.
Thank you in advance!

THE PROJECT

THE HAIL MARY: Fighting his own personal demons, war veteran Darius moves to Montana in an attempt to repair his relationship with his grown son, Terrell. On a day significant to both, they confront their differences.

The Creative Team
This project has pulled together a dynamic team: writer/director and Nollywood breakout Nnamdi Kanaga, Isreal McKinney Scott (NewYork based actor/producer), and Jennings Barmore ( Montana writer/producer).

The Art
This is the second installment of  Presenting the Diaspora of  Black Lives in America Cycle of films. The first film, Talisman (Summer 2019) -also written by Nnamdi Kanaga- has already received nominations and wins at film festivals in Dallas, Toronto, San Fransisco, Indianapolis, and more!

DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT

The narrative of the absent black father is something that has been over flogged for a very long time in mainstream media. While this narrative is still present within the black community, unfortunately, the problem is the perspective with which the media callously depicts this “stereotypical reality.” The Hail Mary, therefore, highlights the depth of a father who was absent because of the circumstances presented to him, even still he had to make a choice. I believe that giving a voice to the reality of Darius Johnson and looking into this “narrative” from a different angle will avail the world a chance to critically analyze what some fathers really go through in life and why they make certain choices, good or bad.

The Hail Mary begins with an opening homage to August Wilson and then moves forward into new territory in the exploration of Black lives, eschewing stereotypes and both insisting on and lingering over the complexities of the human experience (Ben Leubner, MA Ph.D.).
