Help Mark Angell Win His Battle With Cancer

Donation protected
In January of 2024 life came to a screeching halt when Mark was diagnosed with
Stage 3 Colo-Rectal Cancer. It was like being hit by a freight train, going in for a
routine colonoscopy and then being told you have a cancerous malignant mass.

For six decades Mark has been known for his custom shaped surfboards and was given the nickname “Anal Angell” because of his reputation for perfection. After catching his
first wave at the age of eight, then going on to compete and eventually becoming a
first-class shaper. Mark has shaped boards from Santa Cruz, throughout the
Hawaiian Islands and Japan since the late 60’s under his own label, Kienholz &
Angell, Lightning Bolt, Dick Brewer, Town & Country, HIC, O’Neill, Local Motion,
Haut Surfboards and others, always honing and perfecting his craft. It’s who he is.

His way of life and livelihood are in jeopardy as he fights for his life.

The doctor laid out a treatment plan involving chemo infusions with pump pack ,
radiation and possibly surgery at the end. Mark asked the doctor what he would be
looking at if he decided not to do treatment. The doctor looked at him and said, “
You have 6 months to a year”.

Within the next two weeks Mark went into surgery and a port was placed in his chest
and the following week the chemo infusions began. He has been on the chemo
now for 2 months and the effects have devastated his body and have made him
extremely sick. He has become lethargic, dizzy and has difficulty eating and
keeping on weight. Chemo has affected him physically, mentally and emotionally.

He has not been able to work for the past few months, plus has been given notice to
move, with an increase in rent for the remaining 3-4 months, in the house he has
called home for the past 8 years. Between housing expenses, medical and day-to-
day living expenses the financial burden has caught up.

He continues with his chemo treatments and then after that has another 5-6 weeks
of radiation with chemo and then depending on if the cancerous mass is gone,
possibly surgery, then the road to recovery.

Mark was having difficulty sharing his hardship as he was trying to cope with this
reality himself. In coming forward with his situation, many friends are reaching out
to help in any way they can and have encouraged him to share this with others. Any
help that can be provided is a blessing. Your prayers and support are greatly
appreciated.
